Faulkner, Lao Tzu, Richard Bach & Tao Te Ching also contemplated "Self"

Others far beyond my considerations concerning "self awareness" have some very interesting reflections on "Knowing Ones Self" . I hope they will inspire you!

Lao Tzu - He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.

William Faulkner - Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.

Tao Te Ching - Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.

Richard Bach - We wait all these years to find someone who understands us, I thought, someone who accepts us as we are, someone with a wizard's power to melt stone to sunlight, who can bring us happiness in spite of trials, who can face our dragons in the night, who can transform us into the soul we choose to be. Just yesterday I found that magical Someone is the face we see in the mirror: It's us and our homemade masks.

  1. Lao Tzu - He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened. So true. Im glad you enjoyed my last post, I think this post of yours holds correlation to mine; if only more individuals could look past this social stigma on "drugs". These compounds have a purpose, I wish they were used with more respect and appreciation. One day.

  2. Yea, I was young but experienced at the end of the 60's and one of the most enlightened said to me: " Its the pendulum effect", unfortunately it takes a long time for the consciousness to make each swing each way, get back to the middle and eventually....the collective consciousness find the middle.

  3. I think the Lao Tzu quote is interesting because I think someone who knows others really well isn't necessarily self-aware. An interesting phenomenon I have seen from personal experience is a family acquaintance of mine that is a psychologist and analyzes everything others do all the time; however, her family has a hard time communicating and raising their kids. When it comes to instructing others, she's pro, but cant seem to connect it with herself. I think there is higher power in understanding yourself more than those around you.
